Hollywood actor Robert De Niro said that President Donald Trump will not be allowed to dine at any of his restaurants. The actor is the co-owner of a swanky chain of restaurants called Nobu. There are over 30 locations all over the globe. During an interview with the Daily Mail, a UK-based newspaper, De Niro said categorically that he will “never let Trump get into any of his restaurants” under the Nobu chain.
Nobu was founded back in 1993. It was a joint venture between De Niro and Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The swanky chain is designed to provide a perfect fusion of Japanese and Peruvian delicacies. Nearly 30 decades on, Nobu has grown to become an empire with new restaurants and hotels opening at various parts of the world.
De Niro launched a scathing attack against President Trump in the interview. He said that he didn’t care what the President thought or liked. In fact, the Hollywood actor made it clear that he would leave a restaurant if Trump was to walk in. Despite this, De Niro’s partner expressed a more reserved comment. Matsuhisa said during the same interview that it would be an honor for him to serve the President. The chef added that it would be a dream to have Trump and De Niro sit down in Nobu and get their order of Sushi.
President Trump is no stranger to the hospitality offered by Nobu. Even though De Niro wants to ban him now, Trump has visited and dined at this restaurant chain in the past. For example, a Bloomberg report confirmed that Trump has dined once with Russian elites at Nobu Moscow back in November 2013. Trump’s daughter Ivanka has also been a customer at the resultant. In fact, Ivanka had a chance meeting during her dinner at Nobu New York with Rosie O’Donnell, one of Trump’s most outspoken critics.
De Niro has not been a fan of Donald Trump. The Hollywood actor has launched a number of verbal attacks against the President ever since he decided to run in the GOP primaries. Footage recorded in 2016 was in particular very graphic with De Niro calling Trump all sorts of names. He referred to the then-candidate Trump as a “con, a pig, and a dog.” But it didn’t end there. De Niro also referred to Trump as a “mutt who didn’t know what he was talking about.” De Niro also accused Trump of trying to game society and not paying his taxes.
On the other hand, Trump has responded to this criticism. At one point during the 2016 campaign, the President called De Niro a “cry baby.” Trump also said during an interview with Fox News back in 2011 that De Niro isn’t “the brightest bulb on the planet.” This back and forth between the two has been going on for a while. President Trump has not yet responded to the restaurant ban but if we know anything about him, he will definitely hit back very soon.
